In the heart of the French Alps, La Plagne is a good all rounder when it comes to ski holidays. With gentle slopes for beginners, challenging runs for intermediates, and plenty of off-piste terrain for experts, the skiing in La Plagne, part of the Paradiski ski area, is world-class. And with over 425 kilometers and 134 groomed slopes, there’s something to challenge skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Even better, La Plagne ski resort is home to the Vanoise Express cable car, which connects it to the Les Arcs ski area, creating a total of 600 kilometers of pistes. La Plagne ski resort itself is made up of 10 villages, each with its own unique character. Plagne Centre is the main village and home to the majority of the shops, restaurants, and bars. Aime La Plagne is a more traditional village located at a lower altitude, making it a good choice for families. Whereas Plagne Villages, Belle Plagne and Plagne Soleil are the highest villages, each offering visitors stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Each of La Plagne’s 10 distinct areas boast a unique character, from family-friendly pistes to challenging off-piste terrains. All of the villages are interconnected by a vast network of lifts making it easy to get around and explore the entire ski area. Enjoy 425 km of meticulously groomed runs, carve your way through tree-lined paths, or embrace the thrill of untouched powder fields. The variety of options means that every day on the slopes is an unforgettable adventure. For beginners there are gentle nursery slopes and expert instruction from one of the local ski schools to kick-start your skiing journey. Intermediate skiers can indulge in a range of blue runs such as La Plagne Bellecôte Glacier and the Plagne Centre bowl, or challenge themselves on red runs, such as the Combe de la Saulire and the Roche de Mio. While advanced skiers can test their mettle on steep descents and world-class black pistes. For the powder hounds, the Vanoise National Park has some of the best off-piste skiing in the Alps with powder bowls, couloirs, and hidden stashes just waiting to be discovered. Snowboarders can have fun playing in the dedicated snowboard areas, such as the Riders Nation snowpark and the Superpipe, with meticulously designed terrain parks, halfpipes, and natural features to showcase their skills.

When it comes to après ski, the villages in La Plagne are all very different. Plagne Centre and Belle Plagne are the most lively villages, with a wide variety of bars. For live music, head to La Tête in the afternoon and Scotty’s Bar in the evening. Bar La Mine, in Plagne 1800, is another fab place to enjoy après with live bands and a large outdoor terrace. For the night owls, La Bodega in Belle-Plagne is open until the early hours.
There’s an incredible range of dining options in La Plagne, from quick and easy pizzerias to traditional Savoyard fayre from restaurants such as Le Matafan in the centre of La Plagne ski resort, La Ferme in the Galerie Commercial, or Le Refuge in Champagny-en-Vanoise. For dining on the mountain, it has to be Le Chalet des Colosses which is guaranteed to fuel you until après ski time.
Beyond the slopes, non-skiers have plenty to keep them entertained with a range of activities. From snowshoeing and ice skating, to indulging in spa treatments and savouring gourmet dining. If you like cross country skiing, there are 80 km of skiing trails to explore. Or, if you’re up for a challenge, the Olympic bobsleigh is a great evening activity.
The transfers to La Plagne are usually very good as the resort is located just over two hours from Chambery airport, or three hours from both Grenoble and Geneva Airports.
