Well we all have different tastes, if we were all the same life would be pretty boring. I have a love for music and will have music on in the background whatever I am doing. On the occasions when I ski alone I always have music playing, not too loud, I like to hear the sound of my skis, but I have it there to keep me company on the slopes and lifts. I’ve compiled a list of tunes for different parts of a ski holiday. It’s always hard to narrow down a list and I am well aware that on another day my list would be totally different, there’s just too many tracks out there. However, here is my list for ski tunes on a ski holiday.

Black run raucous.

The Ace of Spades, Motorhead. This new wave of British heavy metal classic will get you on the balls of your feet attacking those blacks with gusto. Perfectly paired with La Chavanette, better known as The Swiss Wall in Avoriaz.

Black Betty, Ram Jam. Aged 7 in 1977 this was the first record I ever bought and it’s still a bobby dazzler! Move to the groove! Black Betty, Black 14 in Ischgl.

You Really Got Me, The Kinks. Attributed with being the first heavy metal riff, “You really got me” is a belter for a bit of dutch courage. The east facing Face black in Val d’Isere would be perfect for this 60s ditty.

The Kinks, unbelievable when the brothers weren’t fighting each other.

Red run riots .

Smoko, The Chats.  Australia’s finest giving us a belter to carve those reds up. Val d’Isere, top of the Orange run and straight back into La Daille….’ave iiiiiit.

Danny Ndelko, Idles. What a tune and a powerful message too. Great to get the blood pumping. This ideal Idles track is matched for the Mur red from Alpe d’Huez into Villard Reculas.

I’m Glad That We Broke Up, Du Blonde (ft. Ezra Furman).  Power pop for a red run, this is a cracking tune for red run 19 off the Rothorn in Zermatt.

Idles…idols

Beats for blue runs.

Skinhead Moonstomp, Symarip. It doesn’t get much more chilled than this; let’s cruise the blues. Breckenridge, Colorado USA – take the C chair and blast the Gold King blue trail.

That’s What They Say, Buddy Holly. Buddy’s best work ever in my humble opinion and perfect for huge open G.S. turns on piste 9 from Pralongia down to Armentarola in Alta Badia, Italy.

Long train Running, The Doobie Brothers. Relax back and carve. Behind the Pralong chair in Courchevel 1850 lies a hidden gem of a blue piste called Cospillot…it’s cheekeh!

The real king of rock and roll, Mr Buddy Holly

Off-piste acoustics

Up the Bracket, The Libertines. Smash this beauty out and you’ll be waist deep in powder. Peel off the Tabac black run in Monetier, Serre Chevalier and hit up the deep stuff.

Jolly F***er, Sleaford Mods. Harakiri in Mayrhofen is Austria’s steepest pisted run. It’s short and certainly not sweet so perfect for a trach by The Mods.

Straight to The Man, the Stone Roses. A wide open gentle powder field and this is the number. 7th Heaven on Whistler mountain in the lower sections skiing between the trees – happy days.

The wonderful Libbies.

Music for Moguls.

The higher State of Conciousness, Josh Wink. Get pumped and ready for your knees to hit your chin. What a tune! Bash the bumps from the top of the Aiguille Rouge in Arcs 2000.

Flat Beat, Mr Oizo featuring Flat Eric. A flat beat for a bumping ride, this one will keep your rhythm fast and consistent. Try it out on the double black diamond called Chute in Sun Peaks – what a great trail that is!

Anyone Can Make a Mistake, The Wedding Present. 1987 second year of A levels and this beauty comes on the radio (John Peel Show). Love at first hearing. The Boy Gedge done well. A rather apt song title for a mogul run, short and sweet so perfect for the moguls that run from the Hohe Mut Alm down to Gaisberg in Obergurgl.

The Wedding Present

Chair Lift lovelies.

Truth Hurts, Lizzo. This banger will get the chair bouncing with feisty ole Lizzo packing the ‘tude.

Bad Guy, Billie Eillish. The old chicken neck will be popping to the beat as the lifties look on bemused.

Harper Valley PTA, Jeannie C Riley. Definitely one for The Bell Mountain Chair, Aspen as you ride past the infamous original Panty Tree.

Jeannie C Riley.

Mountain bar chill.

Toothpaste kisses, The Maccabees. Sun blazing down, beer in hand, eyes closed….aaaaaand relax.

You were right, badly Drawn boy. I never get tired of this tune, perfect for kicking back.

Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning, Morrissey. What a tune the ebb and flow of the tide is so calming. The lyrics are full of darkness, simply wonderful.

Maudlin Morrissey

Apres ski cheese.

Sweet Caroline, DJ Otzi. Pure Austrian kase and we love it.

Hey, Wir Wollen die Eisbaren, Sound Convoy. Eurorock but it’s a classic apres ski singalong after 4 steins of Stiegl.

Yes Sir I can boogie, Baccara. What a tune and like the ale it always goes down well come 4pm.

Boogie with Baccara.

I hope you like the tunes. See you soon I hope.
