Carve your way down an extensive range of local linked red and blue ski pistes suitable for all levels, from beginners to seasoned experts. With a ski pass providing access to 535km of pistes to choose from, Mayrhofen offers access to six different ski areas.
The Penken and Ahorn mountains deliver a diverse terrain, ranging from gentle slopes for beginners, to challenging runs for advanced skiers, and the steepest groomed slope in Austria – the Harakiri, as well as thrilling off-piste adventures. Or, if freestyle is your bag, with half pipes and giant jumps to test your tricks out, check out Vans Penken park (on the sunny side of the Hornberg mountain). Fancy making fresh tracks all day every day? There is over 300km of backcountry ripe for exploring, 80% of which can be accessed via the ski lifts, or a short hike.
The modern lift infrastructure allows quick and easy access to the slopes. The Penken gondola is the fastest way up the mountain with 33 gondolas carrying 24 people. Want to really make the most from your lift pass? Then hop on the ski bus that will take you up to the Hintertux glacier ski area for some high altitude skiing.
If you need ski school, there are plenty of ski schools to choose from, and ski hire shops.
When the sun sets, Mayrhofen’s vibrant nightlife comes alive! Discover Austrian après-ski at the one and only Pilzbar – located at the top of the Penken cable car, where you’re guaranteed cheesy Europop, dancing on tables, and fantastic views. Check out Mayrhofen’s coolest (literally) ice bar, right next to the Ahorn gondola – get there early as it fills up from 3pm.
Back in the village, you have a selection of cosy pubs and lively bars with live music. Check out Scotland Yard (a former police station), or Brück’n Stadl, a traditional Austrian après ski. And if you’re still keen to party into the early hours, dance the night away in one of the clubs and enjoy afterhours mountain-style.
Savour the flavours of the Alps with Mayrhofen’s delectable dining scene. There are so many dining options to choose from, most of which are affordable. From slopeside mountain huts serving hearty local dishes to elegant fine dining resort restaurants, your taste buds are in for a treat. For a truly authentic traditional experience, book into Wirtshaus Zum Griena, a 400 year old farmhouse delivering an indulgent menu of meat and dumplings, traditional fondue, schnitzel, and more.
Beyond the slopes, Mayrhofen presents a treasure trove of activities. In town you can while the hours away bowling, curling, or at the Erlebnisbad swimming complex. Want to take in some of that heady mountain air? Then don your snowshoes and venture out into the glistening yonder on a serene winter walk on one of the many winter walking paths. Glide through the snow-covered landscapes on cross-country trails, or take in the views from a horse-drawn sleigh. For those seeking the ultimate adrenaline rush, try a tandem paragliding flight. Or if you just want to relax, book into one of the relaxing wellness facilities where you can unwind in style.
With just a one hour transfer from Innsbruck airport, getting to Mayrhofen is convenient, quick, and hassle-free. Shuttle services and public transportation options are readily available, guaranteeing a seamless journey from the airport to your accommodation. Then, once in Mayrhofen, the village’s layout makes it easy to explore on foot or by local public transport.
