Val d’isere isn’t just one resort, it’s actually three ski areas combined – Le Solaise, Bellevarde and Le Fornet, all catering to different skiing abilities and styles. There truly is something for everyone here from cross country skiing along forest paths, to off piste skiing for the advanced skiers and powder hounds. This ski resort ranks as one of the best in the world for good reason – not only is it snow sure (thanks to its elevation), but it has something to keep all the family entertained, from absolute beginners to experienced skiers. But Val d’Isère isn’t just a resort for the skiers, it’s fantastic for snowboarders too, with a wealth of off piste powder and two fun parks to play in (one in Tignes and one in val d’isère). If you need ski school, there are lots to choose from. Children don’t ski? Not to worry, Le Petit Poucet is a non skiers kindergarten that will look after three to ten year olds.
Would Val d’Isere be half as popular if it weren’t for Dick’s Tea Bar? We think not. When you’ve finished partying in La Folie Douce – located at the top of the La Daille gondola, head on down to the go to nightclub, open 7 days a week until 4am.
Val d’Isere doesn’t just offer great skiing, it has a vast array of great eateries too in Val d’Isere centre and up the mountain. For a Michelin starred experience, it has to be La Cime, a Michelin-starred restaurant offering fine dining with stunning views of the mountains. If you’re slope-side, don’t miss Le Signal at the top of the Solaise lift with panoramic views of the valley. Or for fine dining in your ski boots, try La Table des Neiges, located at the top of the Bellevarde lift providing a fine dining experience with stunning views of the mountains.
For the non skiers or those who want to try something not snow related, book ice driving in a BMW, head out into the big white yonder dog sledding, or take a winter walk in snow shoes along the forest tracks. On white out days head to the local cinema, or splash about in the swimming pool in the leisure centre (one free entry with your lift pass). With shopping a plenty and a large town to explore, Val d’Isere is a fantastic place to visit for all the family.
The best airport to fly into for Val d’Isère depends on your location and your budget. If you are coming from Europe, Geneva Airport is the most convenient option with a three hour transfer to the resort. However, if you can, fly into Chambery airport as it’s closer to the resort and a two hour transfer.
