Out of all of the Scandinavian countries Norway is the one most readily associated with skiing. Home to over 170 ski resorts Norway has a very long ski season, starting at the end of October and continuing until May. Most resorts are at lower altitudes, however, Galdhopigen’s skiing extends to 2,200m – don’t get excited though as it’s a summer ski destination of only 2km of piste!

Like other Scandinavian countries teh resorts aren’t too big but they are snow sure and with spectacular views and a huge skyline. Prices tend to be on the high side compared to the alps for dining out and drinks etc. The food is more subtle and seasonal but has that fresh delicate nature – think smorgasbord, fish, reindeer, dill, pickles, and not forgetting waffles.

Trysil has to be Norway’s premier resort, boasting over 70km of piste and some great terrain for all abilities including experts. The nightlife is laid back but fun and there are plenty of lodging options including the very nice 5 star Radisson Blu resort.

Oppdal a little further north and nearer to Trondheim is the next largest resort with around 56km of piste quickly followed by Hemsedal, Voss, and Hafjell all with around 45 km of piste. All resorts are family friendly, very good for beginners and earlier intermediates but also with their challenges for the more accomplished skiers.

Flight access is usually via Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, and Voss.
