General Overview

Méribel is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts, offering an alpine experience like no other, and unforgettable ski chalet holidays. Meribel is the beating heart of the Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area in Europe with over 600 kilometres of pistes to explore. Méribel is a lively and beautiful resort with a charming alpine village atmosphere, making it the perfect place to enjoy a winter holiday with family and friends. The terrain is suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, with something to offer for everyone. And because the resort sits at 1450m, receiving an average of 10 metres of snow per season, the snow conditions are generally excellent all season long. But it’s not just the extensive ski area that has skiers returning to Méribel time and again, this tradition style ski resort is well known for its legendary après scene. When the lifts close, the bars come alive with the sound of live music. From ski chalets to chalet hotels, you’ll find a variety of accommodation to suit all needs and budgets in Meribel, Brides Les Bains further down the valley, Meribel village, Meribel centre, and further up in Méribel Mottaret. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a newbie eager to hit the slopes, Méribel has something for everyone.

Snow info

Tucked within the Tarentaise Valley, Méribel is a charming ski resort that has captivated winter enthusiasts for decades. But Méribel’s allure lies not only in its stunning natural beauty but also in its well-designed ski areas that cater to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Glide along gentle, tree-lined runs, or venture up the mountain and over to neighbouring valleys of Courchevel and Val Thorens and explore mile after mile of blue, red and black pistes. For total beginners, Méribel is a fantastic place to learn to ski or snowboard, with plenty of ski schools and instructors readily available. You’ll find most beginner slopes at the Altiport – take the Rhodos gondola from La Chaudanne (which is the ski school meeting point for most ski schools). For intermediate skiing, head up the Mont du Vallon for gorgeous descents that will make you smile from ear to ear. And for advanced skiers, well, you’re in the middle of the Three Valleys with 650km of pistes to explore. For those who like a challenge, take on the Women’s Olympic downhill on La Face; or if you prefer going off piste, make fresh tracks in the area around Loze and Dent du Burgin. Want to practice some tricks and kicks in the snow parks? There are two in Meribel that will challenge even the most advanced freestylers.

Nightlife

When the lifts stop running, the apres ski scene in Meribel takes over. Live music rings out both on the slopes and off, and you can find something to keep you entertained until the small hours. For fun on the slope, head to the La Folie Douce and join in the famous open air party. For ski in ski out fun after hours, it has to be Le Rond Point (affectionately known Ronnie’s), which has live music every day of the week. In the resort check out O’Sullivan’s for big name acts, or Jack’s Bar, both of which have late night closing time and happy hour prices every evening.

Eating Out

There are so many restaurants to choose from in Meribel, both on the mountain and in the resort centre. Le Refuge in the centre of the town is a traditional French restaurant serving classic dishes such as fondue, tartiflette, and raclette. Another for the cheese enthusiasts is the aptly named La Fromagerie, a cheese-lover’s paradise offering a variety of fondues, raclettes, and tartiflettes made with the finest local cheeses. For fine dining, it has to be La Table du Ruitor, a Michelin-starred restaurant with stunning views of the surrounding mountains .

Activities

If you’re looking for entertainment away from the slopes, Meribel has it all – bowling, a cinema, horse riding, an ice rink, and a swimming pool to name but a few. For snow fun without skis or a snowboard, try your hand at dog sledding, ice climbing, ski joering, snow tubing, paragliding, or simply hit one of the 25km of snow trails around the resort for some snowshoe walking. For families with young children, Meribel delivers. With a dedicated kids’ ski area at The Elements Park, or games and entertainment in the Intuit Village, when your little people aren’t on the slopes, there’s lots to keep them occupied.

Travel Info

Transfer time to Meribel is approximately 2-3 hours, depending on which airport you fly into/out of. Closest airports are Geneva airport and Chambery airport. Once you’re in the resort, there’s a free bus service to ferry you around.
